The journal Pietas has been added to the Faculty’s Publications Service

Yesterday afternoon, the Faculty of Theology Saint Isidore of Seville and the Observatory of Popular Piety of the Archdiocese of Seville formalised an agreement for the incorporation of the academic journal Pietas into the academic institution’s Publications Service.

The meeting was attended by the Faculty’s senior president, Mr Manuel Palma Ramírez; the director of the Observatory of Popular Piety, Mr Ignacio Flores Prada; and the incoming editor of the journal Pietas, Mr Antonio J. López Gutiérrez, PhD in History, senior lecturer in Historiographical Sciences and Techniques at the Pablo de Olavide University in Seville and a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary.

The journal Pietas has been launched as a scholarly publication dedicated to the study and research of popular piety from a multidisciplinary perspective. Its aim is to provide a forum for reflection and academic debate that enables a deeper exploration of this ecclesial reality from various fields of knowledge, including theology, history, art, sociology, anthropology, pastoral care and law.

The journal, promoted by the Observatory of Popular Piety, aims to become a leading reference for researchers and specialists interested in the study of these manifestations of the life of the Church. It is planned to publish at least one issue per year, available in both print and digital formats.

The Observatory of Popular Piety of the Archdiocese of Seville was established following the Second International Congress on Brotherhoods and Popular Piety, held in Seville in December 2024. Its main objectives include the study, dissemination, provision of advice and training relating to expressions of popular piety, particularly those linked to brotherhoods and confraternities.

The incorporation of Pietas into the Faculty’s Publications Service provides a new impetus to its publishing and research activities, whilst strengthening collaboration with ecclesiastical institutions committed to the study and dissemination of theological knowledge. This agreement also helps to promote academic research into popular piety, a phenomenon deeply rooted in Seville’s religious and cultural tradition.
