Third Cycle. Doctorate in Theology

In order to obtain the Doctorate, the student must have obtained the degree of Licentiate/Master in Theology in an ecclesiastical faculty, in accordance with the provisions of the general regulations of the Faculty. The doctoral candidate will have to satisfactorily pass the requirements established in the particular Regulations for the Third Cycle of the Faculty of Theology, especially with regard to courses and seminars and also complying with the procedure that guarantees, through the form of certification established by the Faculty, the knowledge of a third language, in addition to the mother tongue, other than those accredited in the previous cycles. Under the direction of a professor of the Faculty itself or, with the consent of the President, of another Faculty, he/she will prepare a dissertation that contributes to the progress of science, and will be approved and publicly defended before a Tribunal, according to the rules of the Faculty. In order to obtain the title of doctor, it is required that the whole dissertation, or at least the main part of it, be published in the manner established by the Faculty. The particular Regulations of the third cycle establish all the conditions and academic procedures that the doctoral candidate will have to comply with (Statutes, art. 37).
