Second Cycle. Licentiatus: Master in Theology

BACHELOR'S DEGREE EXAM AND SUBMISSION OF THE TFM

Proposed director and theme. At the beginning of the second term of the first year of the bachelor’s degree, the student will request the moderation of a professor, who will be his or her study tutor and the director of his or her bachelor’s dissertation. To this end, the student will submit to the academic coordinator of the specialty the professor’s proposal -signed by the professor-, together with the dissertation topic (maximum four pages, including: topic outline, research method, outline proposal and basic bibliography).
Registration and delivery of the dissertation. Along with the enrollment of the last subjects that complete the Bachelor’s curriculum, normally in the second term of the second year, the student will register for the Bachelor’s thesis. Such registration shall be valid for three years, at the end of which, if the dissertation has not been defended, it shall be renewed. Each student, under the direction of a professor of the Faculty, will compose and present a thesis of about seventy pages, which must demonstrate the ability of scientific research in the theological field, through the objective exposition of the chosen argument and an original elaboration of the same. Three bound paper copies with blue cover and a pdf file with the full content of the dissertation will be delivered to the General Secretariat. The bachelor’s thesis will be submitted two months prior to its defense.
Degree exam. Prior to the defense of the licentiate thesis, the student will take the final licentiate examination in writing. This examination may not be taken unless all other academic tests for the courses and seminars required to complete the necessary requirements and credits have been passed. Two professors, appointed by the President of the Faculty, will correct the test and submit their evaluation to the General Secretariat.
Dissertation defense. The Chair of the Faculty will set the date for the defense of the dissertation. The defense board of the bachelor’s dissertation defense shall consist of three professors: the chairman of the board, who, appointed by the president of the Faculty, directs the academic act of the defense; the director of the bachelor’s dissertation and the censor. After the candidate has presented the dissertation topic for thirty minutes, the chairperson will give the floor to the other two members of the panel, who will evaluate the academic work and may ask questions and criticize the candidate for ten minutes each. At the end of the act, the members of the tribunal deliberate a unanimous evaluation of the dissertation and its defense.
