Pope Francis, after a long and deep pastoral experience, proposes popular religiosity as a theological place. The evangelizing power of popular piety can be said that “the people evangelize themselves”. It is “a reality in permanent development where the Holy Spirit is the main agent”. “Because they are the fruit of the inculturated Gospel, they have an active evangelizing power. The expressions of popular piety are a theological place to which we must pay attention when thinking about the New Evangelization” (E.G. 126).
Based on this call to deepen the evangelizing value of Popular Religiosity and its connection with the liturgy, the San Isidoro Faculty of Theology of Seville, promoted by the Chair of Liturgy, has created its own Diploma in Liturgy and Popular Religiosity, which will provide a general introduction to the Liturgy and Popular Religiosity, by proposing a journey from the fundamental principles of the theology of the Liturgy and popular piety. In this way, the history of the Liturgy and the expressions of Popular Piety and their relationships will be studied. Finally, the sacramental expressions of the Liturgy and those sacraments and sacramentals most practiced by the people of God will be analyzed.
To be admitted to the course as an ordinary student and to obtain the Diploma in Liturgy and Popular Religiosity, no academic prerequisites are required.
