Diploma in Canonical Forensic Practice

The request made by the 2014 Synod on the Family for the reform of the procedures for declaring the nullity of canonical marriages was implemented through the reform of canons 1671–1691 of the Code of Canon Law, which came into force on 8 December 2015. The success of the far-reaching reform brought about by the Motu proprio Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus requires adequate training for the various parties involved in ecclesiastical courts. To address this training need, the Diploma in Canonical Forensic Practice is being offered, with academic coordination provided by the Chair of Canon and Ecclesiastical Law, part of the San Isidoro Faculty of Theology in Seville.

Given that the aforementioned reform has been primarily procedural in nature, this degree programme, following the necessary introductions to substantive canon law on marriage, will focus on the procedural aspects of proceedings for the declaration of canonical nullity, employing a predominantly practical methodology.

To be admitted to the course as an ordinary student and to obtain the Diploma in Canonical Forensic Practice, no academic prerequisites are required.
