The Faculty of Theology Saint Isidore of Seville opens the enrolment period for the 2026–2027 academic year this Monday, 22 June. The opening of the new enrolment period coincides with the publication of the Sunday letter that the Archbishop of Seville and Grand Chancellor of the Faculty, Monsignor José Ángel Saiz Meneses, has dedicated this week to the academic institution.
In his letter, Monsignor Saiz Meneses recalls that the Faculty is “at the service of theological formation and the Church’s evangelising mission in south-west Spain” and encourages the entire diocesan community to find out about and make the most of its academic programmes. He also emphasises that “theological formation is not a luxury reserved for the few, but a necessity for the Church and a concrete way of loving God and his holy People more deeply and more fully, and of consciously serving our mission in the midst of the world”. The opening of the enrolment period also comes at a particularly significant time for the Faculty. In an interview given last Friday to COPE Sevilla’s programme *El Espejo*, the Dean and President, Mr Manuel Palma Ramírez, highlighted the institution’s sustained growth – it currently has around 1,720 students – as well as the growing influence of its academic and research activities.
During the interview, Mr Manuel Palma highlighted some recent milestones, such as the inclusion of the academic journal *Isidorianum* in the international Scopus index – one of the leading indicators of academic quality – as well as the Faculty’s teaching staff’s regular participation in national and international research forums.
The Dean and President also noted that the Faculty offers a wide range of officially recognised degree programmes — Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Religious Studies, the Baccalaureatus, a Licentiate and a Doctorate in Theology — alongside its own qualifications and continuing education programmes aimed at a wide variety of learners. Among the new developments for the coming academic year are the new Diploma in Canonical Forensic Practice, developed in collaboration with the Metropolitan Tribunal, as well as the consolidation of the Online Course on the Social Doctrine of the Church, organised in collaboration with Cáritas Diocesana de Sevilla.
One of the Faculty’s most highly valued features is its academic flexibility, which allows students to study on a full-time, blended or distance-learning basis, to enrol on full programmes or individual modules, and to take part in university extension courses and continuing professional development. As Mr Manuel Palma pointed out, ‘no one is excluded from the study of theology’ and theological training is an opportunity open to all the baptised who wish to deepen their faith and serve the Church more effectively.
This recognition is further complemented by the coverage that the diocesan magazine *Iglesia en Sevilla* has devoted to the San Isidoro Faculty of Theology in the centre pages of its latest issue, coinciding with the opening of the enrolment period for the coming academic year.
Enrolment for the 2026–2027 academic year will remain open throughout the summer. As a new initiative, the Faculty will keep its offices open during August to assist in person those who wish to find out more or complete their enrolment.
