Several members of the Department of Sacred Scripture at the Faculty of Theology Saint Isidore of Seville took part in the 35th Conference of the Spanish Biblical Association, held from 15 to 17 June at the San Vicente Ferrer Faculty of Theology in Valencia (Catholic University of Valencia).
The academic conference, which brought together specialists from various institutions of theological research and teaching in Spain and Latin America, had as its central theme ‘Canon and interpretative community: identity, authority and tradition’, addressing fundamental issues for the understanding of Sacred Scripture and its reception in the life of the Church.
Representing our Faculty were Professors Pablo Díez, Miguel Ángel Garzón, Antonio Guerra and Álvaro Pereira, as well as Isaac Moreno, a lecturer at the San Leandro Theological Institute in Huelva, a centre affiliated with the Faculty of Theology Saint Isidore of Seville.
During the conference, Professor Pablo Díez presented a paper at the ‘Bible and the East’ seminar entitled ‘The Yahwist communities of Babylon and Elephantine: Adaptability to different legal traditions and social contexts’, in which he analysed the interaction between religious tradition and diverse socio-cultural contexts in the ancient Near East.
For his part, Isaac Moreno, a lecturer at the San Leandro Theological Institute in Huelva and a member of the teaching staff at our Faculty, presented a paper at the ‘Gospels and the Old Testament’ seminar, contributing to the academic dialogue on the relationship between these two biblical corpora.
Furthermore, Professor Miguel Ángel Garzón introduced the speaker Andrés Sáez Gutiérrez for his presentation ‘Rule of Faith and Scriptural Canon’, one of the programme’s highlight lectures.
Finally, Professor Álvaro Pereira presented his recent publication, the Commentary on the Second Epistle to the Corinthians, sharing with participants the main contributions this work makes to the study of the Pauline corpus.
The participation of our lecturers in this conference reflects the San Isidoro Faculty of Theology’s commitment to high-quality biblical research and to an active presence in the leading national academic forums dedicated to the study of Sacred Scripture.
