Yesterday took place the 1st Conference on Psychology and Religion organised by the Faculty of Theology Saint Isidore of Seville, an event that brought together a large group of attendees interested in deepening the relationship between these two disciplines.
The conference featured outstanding presentations that addressed the topic ‘Psychodynamics of influence and dominance in the religious sphere’ from different perspectives, generating an enriching and necessary space for reflection.
During the presentation of the event, the Dean of the Faculty, Mr. Manuel Palma, underlined the deep connection between Theology and Psychology, stressing that both disciplines are not distant fields of knowledge, but rather mutually enrich each other. In his words, Theology seeks to understand the Faith and the experience of God, and on that path, it cannot ignore the complexity of the human being and his inner world.
He also emphasised the importance of the study of psychology within the theological curriculum, as it provides essential tools for understanding the motivations, conflicts and hopes that mark the lives of believers. According to him, interdisciplinarity is not only an academic ideal, but a concrete necessity to achieve a deep understanding of the human being and its spiritual dimension.
The Dean insisted on the importance of not opposing reason and faith, stressing that both dimensions are deeply intertwined in the complexity of the human being. Finally, he expressed his gratitude to the speakers and attendees for their participation in making this day a space for deep reflection and encounter between knowledge, with the common purpose of seeking the truth about the human being and his ultimate meaning.
The day progressed with the intervention of Prof. Dr. Francisco José Blanc Castán, who introduced the topic and its context, Dr. Jorge Domínguez-Rodiño Sánchez-Laulhé, who addressed somatization in therapeutic influence, Prof. Dr. María Dolores Franco Fernández, who reflected on the relationship between psychotherapy and religion, and Prof. Dr. Juan Rivera Mata, who spoke about influence and dominance in the religious sphere.
