The 18th Conference on the History of the Church in Andalusia took place yesterday, organised by the Faculty of Theology Saint Isidore of Seville, through the Chair of Blessed Marcellus Spinola and with the sponsorship of the Congregation of the Handmaids of the Divine Heart.
In this edition, the central theme was ‘The Pontifical Universities in Andalusia (1897-1931)’, with presentations by prominent professors with extensive knowledge of the subject.
Dr. José Leonardo Ruiz Sánchez, Director of the Beato Marcelo Spínola Chair and lecturer in Contemporary Church History at our Faculty, was in charge of introducing the event. After introducing us to the academic career of Dr. Manuel Palma Ramírez, Dean of the Faculty, he gave his speech on the subject of ‘Doctorates in Philosophy at the Pontifical University of Seville’. Dr. Ruiz Sánchez then took the floor again to introduce Dr. Manuel Martín Riego, Professor of Modern Church History at the Faculty, who presented a ‘Comparative study of the Pontifical University of Seville and the Pontifical University of Granada (1897-1931)’.
